Dissolution

“Dissolution” is the culmination of a body of work created during my Denbo Fellowship at the Pyramid Atlantic Art Center in Hyattsville, Maryland in May 2019. This project was centered around deconstructing my dad’s clothes to make handmade paper. He had recently passed away after a long struggle with Alzheimer’s and I saw many poignant parallels within the papermaking process- watching materials dissolve, break down, and reform into a new entity. As an integral part of the piece I also filmed and photographed the transformation from the initial tearing up of the clothes to their slow dissolution within the paper beater.
